I remembered when I got the ethernet cable installed to connect my router to the computer, I had Cat 5e installed. Cat 5e was the latest at the time and could handle speeds of up to 1000 Mbps. However, I used a variety of spare ethernet cables to plug in the router / computer to the 5e cable. Obviously, they were not Cat 5e. So, I turned on the WiFi and speeds are now – 776.2 Mbps down and the same up. I have more money than sense and ordered a variety of Cat 8 cables to connect my router to the computer. Yes, I know that Cat 8 is overkill for home networks but as I have said, I have more money than sense.
